SUBJECT: Gator Byte Volume 28

GATOR BYTE- VOLUME 28 - MARCH 26, 2023
WEEK IN REVIEW

It was another fun week for our Glenville Gators! The first graders enjoyed a trip to Stepping Stones where they got to learn about dinosaurs, experimented with light, explored different sounds, and so much more!

Meanwhile, our Kindergarteners visited the Stamford Museum and Nature Center where they learned how maple syrup is made. They also met animals who live at the Nature Center. See pictures below.

Big thanks to our PTA Co-Educational Enrichment Chairs Suzanne Broadbent and Lizzie Del Giudice for organizing these fun trips!

ReThink Waste Fair- April 1st

Waste Free Greenwich, in partnership with the Greenwich Conservation Commission, is hosting the 2nd annual ReThink Waste Fair on Saturday, April 1st from 11am-3pm at the Christ Church Parish Hall. This engaging, family-friendly event explores ways to rethink waste. Activities will include a book exchange, children’s activities, eco-friendly vendors, compost information, a cooking demo, interactive displays, and more. At noon, town officials will issue an Earth Day Proclamation, and the Greenwich Sustainability Committee will announce the recipients of the Sustainability Award. Start collecting those hard-to-recycle items like electronics, batteries, cell phones, clothing, and more to drop off at the fair. For a full list of materials for the recycling drive and further details, visit https://www.wastefreegreenwich.org/events/2023/1/15/rethink-waste-fair

Earth Month- April 1st- April 30th

This year's celebration of Earth Day emphasizes the need for greater sustainability across the globe.  The Greenwich Conservation Commission, Green Schools, and the Greenwich Country Day School are collaborating in an "all schools" Earth Month celebration this April 2023.  We urge you to join us in this historic educational Earth Month of Action!

~ Battery Drive ~

Help Glenville School kick off Earth Month this April with a battery drive. Bring in your used batteries for us to collect and recycle. Battery drop-off will be in the Main Office starting on Monday, April 3rd. When batteries are placed in landfills and incinerators, heavy metals end up in our water and air.  Small steps like recycling batteries can make a big difference!  Let's get started!

National Deaf History Month - March 13th - April 15th

National Deaf History Month is a time to honor the contributions of deaf individuals and the deaf community and learn more about the ongoing advocacy work deaf organizations undertake in order to make the world accessible to deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

This awareness month runs through March and April because it recognizes three key, historical moments that impacted the deaf community. On March 13, 1988, the ‘Deaf President Now’ or DPN movement successfully campaigned for a deaf president to be installed at Gallaudet University. April 8 marks the anniversary of the founding of Gallaudet University, the only higher education institution for deaf and hard of hearing students. The university is named after Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, an influential figure whose research and advocacy led to an improved educational system for deaf and hard of hearing children. Finally, April 15th commemorates the founding of the American School for the Deaf, one of the first public schools for deaf children.
