AROUND TOWN

Pack 35 Cub Scouts had CHAMPS visit their pack meeting Tuesday night. The scouts learned about war-torn areas of the world, and how CHAMPS sponsors mine sweeping dogs who help protect the people of these areas. The scouts are thinking about sponsoring a dog. Behind Their Screens

Greenwich Library and PTAC Presents
AuthorsLive: Behind Their Screens with Emily Weinstein

Sunday, November 20, 2022

3:00pm - 4:00pm

Berkley Theater, Greenwich Library

Register for free at https://greenwichlibrary.libcal.com/event/9803766

Harvard researcher Emily Weinstein will discuss her co-authored book Behind their Screens: What Teens are Facing (and Adults are Missing) with moderator Kathy Steiner of Greenwich High School.

Contrary to many assumptions, teens are not simply “addicted” to their screens. They are instead trying to navigate a networked world. Drawing on a survey of more than 3,500 teens, authors Emily Weinstein and Carrie James explain that young people need empathy, not exasperated eye-rolling from adults who should try and understand the complicated nature of teens' online life rather than issue commands.

Turkey Trot 2022

Register today! The Greenwich Public School with the greatest participation percentage wins a $500 gift card for PE equipment and Glenville is currently in 5th place.

Kids in Crisis "Holiday Central"

Kids in Crisis will be holding "Holiday Central" at the North Greenwich Congregational Church, located at 606 Riversville Rd. Greenwich CT 06831. All items can be dropped off by Monday, December 5th. Please email jfebles@kidsincrisis.org to schedule a drop off. There are several opportunities to help:

·         Sponsor a child’s holiday wish: a typical list includes winter coat, sneakers, pajamas, underwear and something fun! They'll send you the list.

·         Shop Our Online Registry: Click here to shop online at Amazon.

·         Giving Tree: Just let them know how many wishes you need to create your giving tree and they will send the list!

·         Holiday food or gift drive: Please contact jfebles@kidsincrisis.org for a list of what’s most needed.

·         Donate gift cards in any amount that can be used to purchase last-minute items from supermarkets, Target, WalMart, Old Navy, Visa/Amex, etc.

·         Sponsor a holiday dinner for kids staying at Kids In Crisis’ Safe Haven shelter this holiday season

Holiday Aid 2022

The need is greater than ever this year! In particular, additional support is needed for the “Holiday Wishes” portion of the Holiday Aid program.

The Wizard of Oz Auditions

Open Arts Alliance is proud to announce auditions for The Wizard of Oz for students ages 6-18.

Audition registration can be completed here by December 11. Auditioners need only attend one of the scheduled audition dates. Children auditioning should be prepared to sing a song of their choosing a cappella and be ready to read from a portion of the script.

Thank you in advance, and we hope to see your students on the yellow brick road!
